They can't believe it is happening again.

Viewers have compared the cancellation of a long-running police procedural for the third time to ‘grieving the loss of a friend.’

Swat is the third drama to be axed in a bloodbath at US network CBS this week after the demise of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International.

It’s not the TV show’s first rodeo, as it has been cancelled twice previously but revived unexpectedly in 2023 and 2024.

However, this time, the decision is ‘permanent,’ Deadline reports, in a move that has left fans heartbroken.

On Reddit, 00-quanta- lamented: Oof. ‘Best show that kept me interested for the past several years. Definitely going to miss this show. Seasons 1-5 will always be my favorite but I’m seeing it through to the end.’

B_1_R_D said: ‘Sucks it’s happening again hope another network will see the gains and pick yall up.’

Echoing their sentiment, NTP9766 shared: ‘I’m bummed, because the show was enjoyable for me. Glad they were able to at least get an 8th season out of it, though.’

Machina3317 added: ‘Heartbroken for everyone involved. A show should always be able to go out on its own terms. So many great shows have been blindsided and canceled since last year. I don’t have much to look forward to on a daily basis, so its like grieving the loss of a friend.’

Swat is centred on Sergeant Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson (Shemar Moore), who is leading the new Special Weapons and Tactics unit of the LAPD.

On Instagram, Shemar reacted to the show’s cancellation, which he described as ‘sad.’

He said: ‘To my homies, to my fans, to my baby girls and to Hollywood — yeah, I said it — to Hollywood. The game.

‘I said I wasn’t going to do this, but I can’t help it. I’m gonna do it because it’s who I am. It’s how my mama raised me. Own your dignity, tell the truth. She can’t stand a liar, so I ain’t lying, and I’m telling the truth.

‘Swat, here we are, season eight, three weeks away from the finale, we are canceled again. It sucks. It’s sad.’

First aired in 2017, Swat based on the 1975 television series and 2003 film adaptation of the same name.
