Teddy Swims is listened to over 10,000,000 times a day through his hit songs including Lose Yourself, the Door and Bad Dreams. He was performing at the Brit Awards over the weekend and at the Grammys earlier this year. And yet, the 32-year-old has revealed if he stops touring he won’t be able to afford his baby.

‘We’re due in June – a little boy,’ Teddy, real name Jaten Dimsdale, told Jimmy Hil on Capital Radio while discussing he and 29-year-old singer Raiche Wright’s baby excitement.

Explaining how he will juggle work and being a new father, Teddy said: ‘We’ve got June off for the baby to be here and a lot of July off as well.

‘But unfortunately, there is so much of this year that has been scheduled and we’re buying a house as well so we’re going to tour a little bit less.’

However, Teddy’s family is relying on him to carry on touring for the rest of the year.

‘But for the rest of this year if I stop touring then we can’t afford to have a baby,’ he said.

‘So, I’m going to miss some stuff this year but next year primarily I think we’re just doing a lot of spot dates like festivals and stuff and doing a lot of writing so I can be home more.

‘And he will be big enough by then that I think he will do some of the North American tour with me this year too.’

As well as putting on a show-stopping performance in London at the Brit Awards this weekend – where Charli XCX scooped all her Brat awards – Teddy was nominated for international song of the year for Lose Control, but was pipped to the gong by Chappell Roan’s Good Luck, Babe!.

In this awards season he was also nominated for a best new artist Grammy and he performed at the US ceremony to millions of viewers at home.

Teddy’s success has grown since the release of his debut album I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1) in 2023. His second, I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 2), went straight to number one on its release last month.

In an interview with The Evening Standard Teddy explained how he and Raiche are moving house before welcoming their baby boy.

‘I wanna have land, I wanna have a yard and a garden and a creek and a pool,’ the Georgia-born singer said. ‘I want that baby to have a trampoline.’

Struck by the benefits of having therapy himself, Teddy added: ‘Me and my girl even have started doing couples therapy together to make sure that we’re bringing this baby into the most beautiful, healthiest, communicative home.’

Teddy’s comments about his own financial situation as an internationally-recognised artist in the face of big streamers come after Kate Nash voiced concerns about touring costs for UK artists.

The Foundations hitmaker, 37, stated that ‘touring makes losses, not profits,’ which she explained has led to her selling butt pictures on OnlyFans in her recent ‘Butts for Tour Busses’ campaign.

She explained: ‘A recent survey by Pirate Studios found that whilst gig ticket and festival prices are skyrocketing and we are seeing a select few in the industry become millionaires or even billionaires from touring, the majority of musicians and artists are struggling to be able to afford to actually play shows.

‘Costs of travel, accommodation, food, promotion, and employees have also gone up in price, but musicians are not seeing changes in their gig fees to help pay for all these rising costs.’

Speaking last year, Kate said: ‘So this Christmas I’m asking that you buy either a piece of my merch or my a**e on my new OnlyFans account, katenyash87, to support me paying great wages and putting on a high-quality show as I will not sacrifice either of things.’

The singer also joked that there is ‘no need to stream [her] music’ as she’s ‘good for the 0.003 of a penny per stream’.

Listen to The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill on Monday to Thursday from 19:00 – 22:00 across the UK and on Global Player.
