Little Mix star Jesy Nelson has shared her heartbreak at how she felt unable to protect her now-reunited newborn twins in the wake of a difficult pregnancy.

She first announced that she was pregnant with twins in January, sharing the news that she was expecting children with boyfriend Zion Foster, 26.

Since then, the star has been open about her troubled pregnancy, detailing how the twins were ‘living off one placenta’ due to pre-stage TTTS (twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome).

She underwent emergency surgery and later confirmed that the TTTS had ‘cleared up’.

On May 15, Jesy and Zion welcomed newborn daughters Ocean Jade Nelson-Foster and Story Monroe Nelson-Foster – sharing the news to her social media a few days later.

The Boyz hitmaker has now shared an update on how the girls are doing, revealing the sense of powerlessness she felt as the newborns were taken away to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for vital care.

Sharing a picture of herself cradling Ocean Jade and Story Monroe while Zion looked over them all, Jesy wrote:’Nothing or no one will ever be able to prepare you as a parent for NICU.

‘It’s the most scary overwhelming feeling of emotions not being able to feel like you can protect your babies.

‘Naturally as a mother you just want to hold them and comfort them when they cry but you can’t because there are what feels like a million wires coming out of them and tubes and masks in the way with people poking and prodding them it breaks your heart into a million pieces.’

She continued: ‘But slowly as the days go by and they get stronger and wires start to come away, moments like this feel like a dream.

Having them reunited for the first time ever today was the most magical feeling I will never be able to describe ???? the strongest little girls I’ve ever known who really do have the most inspiring story to tell ????’

In the comments below the post, fans were quick to share their admiration for Jesy’s strength, and the bravery with which she told her story.

‘your strength is so inspiring & admirable jes ???? i love you so much & am sending you & zion so much love. they’ll be home soon my darling, you’ve got this x’, said @mollyy.dennis.

‘You guys are soo strong just like your girls are. What a beautiful family’, agreed @ella_cast.

In March, Jesy and Zion shared an update on the pregnancy, revealing one of the complications that came with having identical twins.

‘The type of twins we are having are called mono/di twins and so normally most twins will have two placentas that they feed off of,’ she revealed in a video to her Instagram account.

‘But when you have mono/di twins, that means your twins live off one placenta which can lead to lots of complications – one of them being one baby might take all the nutrients which, and it’s really awful to say, but could lead to both babies dying.

Fighting back tears, the singer spoke of how, with every scan, ‘it has got a little bit worse’ but felt ‘blessed’ to be pregnant with twins.

‘We had no clue that this kind of thing happens when you have twins,’ she added.

‘We just really wanna raise awareness about this, because there are so many people who don’t know about this.’
