Joe Alwyn would love to throw his ‘hat in the ring’ for the coveted role of James Bond.

Since Daniel Craig stepped down from the role, various names have been put forward to don the famous black tuxedo including Leo Woodall, Theo James and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

The Brutalist actor, 34, was asked about the possibility of playing 007 in the future during his appearance at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night.

He admitted he would love to take over the role from Craig, who stepped down after the release of his fifth Bond film No Time to Die in 2021.

When asked if he would like to play Bond, Joe told Variety: ‘Oh, wow. Who wouldn’t throw their hat in the ring? You know?’

Joe went on to joke he’ll take the role ‘if you’re offering!’ and declared he likes his martinis both shaken and stirred, saying: ‘I like both. I do, I do.’

The hunt for a new Bond looks set to resume after the franchise was taken over by Amazon MGM in a mega-money deal following the departure of long-term producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

After the announcement was made last month, an insider told Deadline’s Baz Bamigboye that the deal might not have happened if Bond bosses had found the perfect actor to take over from Craig.

The source said: ‘Perhaps, I do think that it’s possible that if God had sent us a totally no-brainer Bond in the last couple of years, then it might be a different situation.’

Another insider told the publication the producers had taken meetings with several actors about the role – with reports suggesting Godzilla star Aaron Taylor-Johnson was among them – but there was never a clear ‘frontrunner’ for the coveted part.

They said: ‘[The meetings were] just as kind of an ongoing, keeping your eye out on who’s around, but keeping in touch.’

‘But I definitely don’t think that there was any frontrunner. They wanted to know what they wanted to do next before they thought of the right person for it.’

They continued: ‘It’s sort of chicken and egg, isn’t it? And if there was a blindingly obvious new guy, it might be a different situation.’

Fans are more convinced than ever that a female Bond could be on the horizon following a tribute at this year’s Oscars.

The Substance star Margaret Qualley kicked things off with a dance routine, before Blackpink’s Lisa performed a rendition of Live and Let Die, followed by Doja Cat’s version of Diamonds are Forever.

Raye wrapped the segment up with a cover of Skyfall, while Halle Berry – who popped up in 2002’s Die Another Day – appeared on stage to shout out Barbara and Michael for their efforts over the years.

Many took to social media to speculate that the inclusion of female artists Qualley, Lisa, Doja Cat, and Raye could mean that a female Bond is being teased.
