Stephen Fry: BBC would slice my testicles off if I commented on Celebrity Traitors rumours
'I would be fired in the driveway.'

Sir Stephen Fry has joked the BBC would ‘slice off his testicles’ if he dared comment on rumours he’s joining Celebrity Traitors.
The 67-year-old actor and presenter has been heavily linked to the Beeb’s upcoming celeb spinoff for the hit gameshow of bluff and deceit, and he’s wary of saying the ‘wrong thing’.
Speaking at the Newport Beach Film Festival‘s UK and Ireland Honours event at Raffles London at The OWO, he exclusively told Metro: ‘I can say that the BBC would slice off my testicles if I were to comment publicly on the possibility of such a thing as dwelling in a castle in Scotland for a week or two – or indeed for a day or two, quite likely.
‘I would be fired in the driveway, which is the thing they sometimes do, isn’t it, before you even get there, if you say the wrong thing.’
Sir Stephen, who received the ICON Award at the event celebrating his over 25 years of experience and contributions to the film industry, has been rumoured alongside a cast ranging from Alan Carr to Courteney Cox.
Even if he’s staying as tightlipped as a Traitor on the speculation, it’s clear he’s a fan.

I’m not usually a fan of what you might call reality TV, but I think of it more as a game than reality TV, it’s just a very clever game, simple but complex as well,’ he added.

‘I’m a terrible liar [though],’ he quipped, before laughing: ‘Or am I?’
Well played, Stephen. Well played.

He pondered: ‘I don’t know which I’d be. I’d like to think in life I am a very faithful sort of person, but in a sense we’re all traitors too, aren’t we?
‘We’re traitors to ourselves, we let ourselves down, betray our ideals… Gosh that got serious very quickly, didn’t it? What happened there? [Laughs]’

He teased: ‘Yes, it’s supposed to be fun, you’re right! Mustn’t overdo it. And yes, I believe that it is happening, and I believe that, as I say, that I’m not supposed to talk about it.
‘Wouldn’t it be interesting to do? I think it would…’
If Stephen does end up in the castle, he’ll definitely be one to watch out for at the roundtable.
The celebrity version is up next, but anyone hoping to get involved in the fourth series of the main show have their chance with applications extended until March 28.

‘We’re actively looking for people who have got a passion for playing that game, and potentially might come to it with a game plan or a strategy,’ he said.
‘But we’re also looking for people who can bring something from their own lives to it, whether that’s a skillset, whether that’s from a past job, whether that’s a hobby, or some sort of life experience that they’ve had.’
He added: ‘It’s a bit like when you’re putting together a jury I guess, in that we look for people from all sorts of different backgrounds and all walks of life that we can put together, that give us a diverse cross-section of the UK.’
The Traitors is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
