You may want to hurry...

‘Truly deranged’ horror movie leaving Netflix and fans don’t have long to watch

Horror movie fans only have a few weeks to watch a ‘jaw-dropping’ film with a star-studded cast, before it leaves Netflix for good.

The Menu was released in 2022 and has barely left our minds since, with Ralph Fiennes leading the way as a villainous chef alongside Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, John Leguizamo and Judith Light.

Mark Mylod’s dark comedy masterpiece follows a couple as they join diners at an exclusive restaurant on an island, where an extravagant chef serves up a lavish tasting menu alongside some slightly less tasty surprises…

It was met with huge acclaim three years ago and racked up a string of award nominations, including two Golden Globe nods for the lead stars.

Unfortunately for viewers in the US, The Menu has been slapped with a ‘leaving soon’ sticker, and will be removed from Netflix on April 1.

The flick currently boasts a huge Rotten Tomatoes score of 88% for critics, compared to an audience ranking of 76%.

Heaping praise on Ralph and co, user Chardaye C wrote: ‘Personally, I enjoyed this movie very much. The acting was great, the situation was harrowing, and the way hidden information about the characters comes up kept it interesting. I enjoyed learning about everyone’s skeletons.

‘It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I had fun, and I enjoyed being surprised.’

‘This movie is psychotic. Only a truly deranged individual could come up with something like this,’ S Chris H commented.

Special K cheered: ‘With stellar acting and sharp direction and editing, The Menu is a very good exploration of how art is critiqued, consumed, and enjoyed that will have you thinking about it after the last bite… and likely make you hungry too.’

‘I love the fact that I went into this movie without knowing anything about it. Such a tense and volatile story, filled with jaw-droping moments [sic],’ Ruben S agreed.

Niree K said: ‘This movie did not disappoint. Loved the plot, the script, and the acting. Was horified several times and laughed out loud a few times. Fits perfectly into its genre of comedy-horror [sic].’

As Grant H added: ‘What did I just watch? And I mean that in the best way possible. What a trip!’

The Menu hit the big screen three years ago, with Harry Potter legend Ralph tapping back into his villain era for the role of Chef Slowik, who was in charge of putting on a show – and a slap-up meal – for his rich diners.

As well as stealing every scene, the Oscar nominee also helped out behind the scenes, and played a key part in changing the dramatic finale.

Speaking to Metro at the premiere, producer Betsy Koch explained how the ending was changed, and how Ralph stepped in to improve things.

‘It was still the same spirit. It was just a slightly different twist on it,’ she told us. ‘I feel like this one feels a little more emotional and is a little more rooted to character which is a great thing.

‘Ralph had a lot of great notes on that final scene too, we incorporated some of his notes. That final sequence, he tied it more into his character in a really smart way, in a really thematic way.’

The Menu is available to stream on Netflix US now.
