A new ‘very violent’ horror series featuring a Hollywood A-lister is coming to Amazon Prime Video and potential viewers have all been left saying the same thing.

The Bondsman is set to be released on the platform on April 3, starring Kevin Bacon, Jolene Purdy, Jennifer Nettles, and Maxwell Jenkins.

The TV series follows Hub Halloran (Bacon), a murdered bounty hunter who is resurrected by the Devil to trap demons and send them back to hell.

While teaming up with his estranged family to catch demons, he learns how his sins led to his soul being condemned and endeavours to seek a second chance at life.

This month, a trailer showcased the chaos and guts fans can expect from the horror show, drawing comparisons to one popular TV series that was sadly cancelled in 2018.

‘The Bondsman looks tremendous. Like Ash vs Evil Dead, but better made,’ 2023Sentinela wrote on X.

Fernando6618406 added: ‘It seems very similar to Evil Dead to me, this Kevin Bacon character is practically Ash Williams.’

Wussoppp agreed, saying: ‘They basically made ash vs evil dead but with Kevin Bacon.’

Ash vs Evil Dead was a spin-off series in the Evil Dead franchise, which includes the original trilogy The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II, and Evil Dead: Army of Darkness as well as Fede Alvarez’s 2013 remake Evil Dead and Lee Cronin’s 2023 instalment Evil Dead Rise.

The TV adaptation, which began in 2015, saw Bruce Campbell return to the role of Ash Williams who, 30 years after the events of the trilogy, is forced to pick up his boomstick once more and fight the Deadites threatening humanity.

Campbell’s Ash and Bacon’s Hub are strikingly similar, both being wise-cracking, dark-humoured protagonists taking down supernatural entities in violent and gory ways – Hub even wields a chainsaw in The Bondsman’s first trailer.

After three seasons, in 2018, it was announced that Ash vs Evil Dead had been cancelled, sparking an outcry from fans.

Vikinggeek44600 described the trailer as a cross between ‘Evil Dead and Buffy’, while Chillzhorreur thought it had a ‘very Ash Vs Evil Dead white trash atmosphere.’

‘Why does “The Bondsman” look like something made by @GroovyBruce and Sam Raimi? This just screams Evil Dead, or at least Ash Vs. Evil Dead,’ TheRayNoodle wrote.

Elbadiablo posted: ‘Constantine + Supernatural + Evil Dead + Kevin f*****g Bacon…You’ve got my attention.’

Gerbravery said: ‘The trailer keeps going and feels like a scrapped Ash vs The Evil Dead season 4 but this time with Kevin Bacon. Can’t wait to see it.’

The upcoming Prime Video series has also been compared to the supernatural 90s show Brimstone (Picture: Tina Rowden/Prime)

Others compared the show to the 1998 series Brimstone, which followed deceased detective Ezekiel Stone (Peter Horton) brought back from the dead by Hades to capture the souls of those who have escaped hell.

Bacon is no stranger to the world of horror, having roles in Maxxxine, Stir Of Echoes, Hollow Man, Trapped, The Darkness, and even Friday the 13th.

Teasing the new Blumhouse series, Bacon told Vanity Fair: ‘It is very violent and has a lot of blood and scares, but it also has some tongue-in-cheek aspects. It’s oftentimes funny, and it also has a lot of heart.’

The Bondsman comes to Amazon Prime Video on April 3
