A ‘masterpiece’ sci-fi series can finally be watched by fans for free in the UK.

Star Wars added to its ever-growing franchise in 2022 with the release of Andor, as a prequel to Rogue One.

The show stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, following his character’s journey to joining the Rebel Alliance.

Following the release of the 12-episode series, fans hailed it a ‘masterpiece’, and have been left desperately awaiting the upcoming second installment.

It scored a seriously impressive 96% Rotten Tomatoes rating, with @sawyeurism writing on X: ‘I love Andor with my whole heart but I rarely feel like I have the right words to properly express how this show makes me feel. It’s an absolute masterpiece.’

@SpectreRobin added: ‘Star Wars Andor is unlike anything I’ve ever seen in this universe. It’s smart, gripping and beautifully shot. I’m worried if I try to watch the other shows I’ll keep comparing them to this masterpiece. I know I’m late, but 10/10 my new favourite story in this universe.’

Fans can now watch full episodes without a Disney+ subscription, as the first three are on YouTube alongside a recap of season one.

Teasing the second season, a Disney+ release states: ‘The second season takes place as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance.

‘Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound.

‘Rife with political intrigue and danger, the series is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which portrayed a heroic band of rebels who steal the plans to the Empire’s weapon of mass destruction—The Death Star—setting the stage for the events of the original 1977 film.

‘Andor sets the clock back five years from the events of Rogue One to tell the story of the film’s hero, Cassian Andor, and his transformation from disinterested, cynical nobody into a rebel hero on his way to an epic destiny.’

Andor also stars Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Stella Skarsgard, Fiona Shaw and Varada Sethu.

Season one received critical acclaim and was nominated for three Primetime Emmy awards, including outstanding drama series.

Heaping praise on the series, Moose M wrote on Rotten Tomatoes: ‘Arguably my favorite TV show of all time. It certainly is lately.’

‘Hands down the best Star Wars show! Slow to start but once this one gets moving its jaw dropping good. Really good,’ another anonymous reviewer commented.

McKay S said: ‘Probably some of the best SW content there is! I love the darker take on the franchise, and the episode “One Way Out” is one of my favorite episodes of any show I’ve ever seen!’

Kevin P added: ‘An emotionally moving and gripping slow-burn that’s grounded in reality and keeps building to an exciting series of arcs that deconstruct the inner workings of the empire, the rebellion, and the everyday life of a typical individual within the vast galaxy far, far away.’
