Netflix is about to drop ‘bloody brilliant’ horror hit fans can’t wait to sink their teeth into
The film stars Nicolas Cage as a classic movie monster.

Netflix is set to add one of 2023’s best horror films to its line-up – starring the magnificent Nicolas Cage as Count Dracula.
The Cage stars opposite Nicholas Hoult in the comedy-horror film Renfield, which follows Dracula’s personal assistant as he attempts to extricate himself from life under horror cinema’s most horrible boss.
Aided by cop Rebecca (Awkwafina), Renfield navigates life as a free man for the first time – only to be drawn back into Dracula’s web as the Count seeks to get his former assistant back under his thrall.
Featuring an anarchic blend of slapstick comedy and splatstick violence, the film won audiences over with its high-octane action sequences and surprisingly empowering story.
The streaming service will add Renfield to its list of wares from Monday (February 17), meaning that viewers can dig in all over again.
And to those who missed out on Renfield’s charms the first time around? Now’s your chance.
Nic Cage gives a typically demented performance as Dracula (Picture: AP)Almost two years after release, the film currently sits at a healthy 78% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes – with viewers highlighting Nicolas Cage’s colourful performance as the Count as one of its winning moves.
Critics were slightly less favourable, and the film boasts a somewhat anemic score of 58% – describing it as too self-aware and ‘surface level’ to break the skin of the Dracula mythos.
Metro couldn’t get enough though, with our Larushka Ivan-Zadeh describing it as ‘one of the year’s greatest cinematic pleasures’.

‘Renfield was so much fun. Great add by Netflix. To me this is why we make movies, for silly ideas that allow our imagination to roam and just entertain us. Funny, really funny at times and doesn’t take itself too seriously or try too hard to be something it’s not,’ wrote goldenwashup on X.
‘Renfield sounds like an entertaining watch; Netflix keeps delivering great content,’ said Xuser0_0.
Meanwhile, Tsocialeye described it as: ‘Bloody brilliant horror-comedy with dark laughs & vampire chaos! ????????’
‘RENFIELD COMING ON NETFLIX,’ yelled an excited dollieonacross.

Last year saw the About A Boy star appear in the backdoor Dracula adaptation (and remake) Nosferatu, directed by modern horror master Robert Eggers.
This time, Hoult played victim to Count Dracula – sorry, Count Orlok – becoming his hostage after travelling to Transylvania to broker a real estate deal.
Nicholas went on to star opposite another vampire in Nosferatu (Picture: AP)In the weeks following the film’s release, Nicholas revealed how he was gifted a memento from the film’s shoot – the prosthetic penis of Count Orlok himself.
‘There’s a scene where Bill Skasrgard is slurping my blood, and Robert Eggers asked afterward, “How was that for you?” And I said, I could feel his prosthetic penis on my leg”,’ he said in an interview with Elle.
‘And then, as a wrap gift, Rob [Eggers] got it framed, and he sent it to my house.’
Bill Skarsgard played a more primal kind of vampire (Picture: Universal Pictures)However, there was more in store for the duplicate dong – as Nicholas was forced to answer some awkward questions when he took it to be re-framed at a local shop.
‘The frame had broken so I had to take it to the local frame shop and I had to be like “Hey dude, can you fix this?”
‘Then, when I went back to pick it up, I think he’d clocked like how weird it was that I was framing potentially this vampire penis, and he was like, “Is this some kind of collector’s piece?” And I was like, “Hm, you could say that.”‘
Renfield is streaming on Netflix from Monday, February 17.
