Previous Page Next PageConor Maynard has spoken publicly for the first time about his paternity scandal with The Traitors star Charlotte Chilton.
Charlotte spent several months publicly claiming the music artist was the father of her baby after the pair were introduced at a wrap party for the show through their mutual friend Harry Clark, who was dating Conor’s younger sister, Anna.
Conor remained silent, including after Charlotte, 33, gave birth to Penelope last October.
However, in March he finally addressed speculation saying a paternity test confirmed he was not her father.
Now, the singer has shared thoughts during an appearance on This Morning with hosts Paddy McGuinness and Alison Hammond.
Asked how he was feeling, he said: ‘It was so shocking to me how it seemed like there was such a failure from the public and also from the press to require proof before condemning me before something ended up being false.
‘More importantly than me there was a child in this whole situation who will grow up and one day see this situation for herself.’
The singer also revealed that he had no idea Charlotte would take this story to the press.
He said it was ‘difficult to remain silent’ and was ‘instantly treated as a deadbeat dad’ on social media.

He added: ‘Mental health is something I’ve struggled with for a big portion of my life and this year has definitely been up there in terms of my experience and battle with it.
‘I got to see how people can reach their conclusion and brand you as what you want immediately, and I didn’t want that to happen all over again once I revealed the results of the paternity test.’
Asked by Paddy if he felt any relief when he got the test results, Conor said he thought he was going to have a panic attack
Reflecting on the wrap party night out, he revealed that he had wanted to stay home with his girlfriend, but his friends persuaded him.

However, in March, Charlotte questioned the accuracy of the test, claiming that she is ‘adamant’ that Conor is Penelope’s dad.
Conor’s paternity test was conducted in the presence of Charlotte’s legal representative.
The TV personality originally kept identity of the baby’s father a secret but ultimately decided she didn’t want it to be a ‘dirty secret’ and pointed the finger at Conor.
After Penelope was born in October, she told OK! Magazine that he knows but she ‘hadn’t heard anything’.
She said: ‘There’s been days where I’ve been in tears because I’m sitting here thinking, “I’ve got a daughter that looks f*g identical to you”.
