Previous Page Next PageCelebrity Big Brother has had a particularly rocky start this season with plenty of uncomfortable viewing moments already.
This includes Mickey Rourke’s ‘homophobic’ comments and now a tense exchange between Trisha Goddard and Michael Fabricant.
On Friday’s episode, before the former Tory MP, 47, became the first to be booted out of the house, he and Trisha, 67, came head to head.
During the show’s first shopping task, Chesney Hawkes, 53, asked for Michael’s insight into immigration in the UK.
He shared his own experience as a man of ‘Jewish decent’, sparking warning words from TV host Trisha.
‘Jewish people when they usually come to this country believe, do in Rome as the Roman’s do,’ Michael responded.

He added: ‘Do not come to this country if your aim is to change everybody to your way of thinking.’
To this, Trisha quickly asked: ‘Hang on! Are you slipping into Islamophobia? Because you’re going to have trouble.’
‘Who mentioned Islam?’ Michael hit back as Daley Thompson decided to duck out of the room – and the conversation.
‘It’s getting dangerous,’ Trisha added as the politician continued to defend himself and pleaded that they didn’t ‘misunderstand’ him.
‘I’m trying to explain this country has benefited from wave upon wave of immigration,’ he concluded.
The tense exchange sparked conversation on X as fans were incredibly split over whether or not Michael had been Islamophobic, intentionally or not.
Trisha Goddard slammed him for ‘dangerous’ implications (Picture: ITV)‘Why is Trisha saying Islamophobia during Michael’s speech?! He didn’t even say that,’ asked nicejanice19.
Marcjohnson27 said: ‘Bit confused as to why Trisha deemed it appropriate to accuse Michael of Islamophobia when he never even mentioned Islam?’
However, others saw what Trisha meant as while he didn’t directly target anyone, his comments are in line with Islamophobic rhetoric.
‘I like Michael but tbh, that’s what sprang to my mind when he said migrants should adapt to the UK and not expect the opposite. It’s obvious, innit? So I don’t blame Trisha for thinking he meant that,’ shared Smswrsmtm.
‘Sorry but Trisha was right,’ wrote a1yafr, ‘That is what Michael was implying, and he was skating on that idea. She knew that a common Tory argument was that muslims don’t “integrate” and don’t “do as the Romans do when in Rome” and called it before he could say it.’
MoreSleep25550 agreed: “Do not come to this country if your aim is to change everybody to your way of thinking,” is that exact same rhetoric that racists have used over the years, so it wasn’t hard, for me at least, to see why Trisha leapt to such a supposition.’
Michael was the first out of the house this season (Picture: Vianney Le Caer/Shutterstock for)Michael was voted out later that evening, facing the public vote alongside Mickey Rourke, 72, and Jack P. Shepherd, 37.
The Tory’s eviction came as a surprise, considering the growing backlash against Mickey for his ‘creepy’ and ‘vile’ behaviour against multiple women in the house.
Before he even entered the house, he grabbed host AJ Odudu and pulled her towards him before eyeing her up and down.
Just 48 hours later, he was given a warning by Big Brother for using a homophobic slur in a conversation with Jojo Siwa about her sexuality.
He said he would ‘tie her down’ and she ‘wouldn’t be gay anymore’ in a horrific comment before apologising for the comments when called out by Big Brother.
Mickey also reduced Patsy Palmer to tears in the Diary Room when he bluntly criticised her cooking after she had prepared a meal for them.
Celebrity Big Brother continues tomorrow night at 9pm on ITV1.
